China Training Director
IBJ’s China Training Director, under direction from IBJ’s Training Director in Geneva, will be responsible for leading the development of all IBJ training materials targeting its China programs (both directly and through managing a network of IBJ supporters) and ensuring the quality of all training materials and training programs in China.

INTERNSHIPS – GENEVA
International Bridges to Justice (IBJ) is a nonprofit, nongovernmental organization dedicated to ensuring the basic legal rights of ordinary citizens in developing and transition countries. Specifically, IBJ works to guarantee all citizens the right to competent legal representation, the right to be protected from cruel and unusual punishment and the right to a fair trial.
IBJ welcomes committed volunteers who wish to intern with us. We accept interns throughout the year, in our head office in Geneva and in countries in which we have programs. We recruit on a rolling basis, except for the summer, for which we accept applications up until January 20th, 2013.
We welcome applications from students or recent graduates of law, business, political science, international relations, and other related study areas. Internships are unpaid, but can be done on a flexible basis (full time or part time). We ask that interns commit to working with us for a minimum of 12 weeks. Internship Requirements

Written and spoken fluency is essential. At the Geneva headquarters, fluency in French is desirable but not a prerequisite. In countries for which we have programs, it is preferable that interns are fluent in the local language. (The ability to speak Mandarin Chinese is required of China Interns.) Criminal Justice eLearning Initiative – Geneva
IBJ is looking for suitable candidates to support our eLearning and accreditation initiative, which is a means to set standards for criminal defense lawyers, prosecutors and judges around the world in terms of the domestic implementation of international human rights legal norms. This initiative will allow jurists to advance through a progressive training model using an eLearning platform.

Social Media/Web Communications Internship – Geneva
IBJ has made considerable progress in our use of the Web to drive support for our programs. This includes upgrades to www.ibj.org, blog.ibj.org, and justicemakers.ibj.org. This also includes the management of IBJ Facebook and Twitter Profiles, Youtube channel, and the publication of a photo gallery on www.photoshelter.com/c/internationalbridges.

Program Management Internships
IBJ is looking for suitable candidates to help with the management of our country programs. The intern will be responsible for assisting in the development and maintenance of project workplans for country programs, providing support for IBJ staff and Fellows in country offices, and drafting reports, grants and proposals to generate funding and resources for these programs.

JusticeMakers Program Management – Geneva
IBJ is looking for suitable candidates to assist IBJ’s staff in various duties relating to our JusticeMakers (JM) Project. JusticeMakers is an online community that shares intellectual capital and best practices in the field of criminal justice. The site facilitates discussions, connects passionate members of the criminal defense community, and hosts competitions that seed the most innovative proposals seeking to curb torture abuse.

Development Intern – Geneva
IBJ receives support from a variety of leading foundations who believe in our theory of change. With that said, the funding world is quite complex with thousands of different players. In order to best prioritize staff time, IBJ needs help differentiating among various funders, investigating those that we feel might be the best fit, and help with drafting proposals to them. Relevant data points include: average grant size, standard grant timeline, level of involvement, focus, etc. IBJ’s Development Intern would work closely with Karen Tse, IBJ’s Founder and CEO, who is an award–winning social entrepreneur.

INTERNSHIPS – CHINA
China Office – Legal Training and Program Development Volunteer
IBJ has instituted a fellowship to provide international criminal defense expertise to legal communities in China. The Fellow will support the work of ongoing rule–of–law projects in IBJ’s Southeast Defender Resource Center (SEDRC), located in Wuhan, Hubei Province. The SEDRC is a partnership between IBJ and the Wuhan University Law School, one of China’s most prestigious legal institutions. The Fellow will work closely with IBJ staff and members of the local legal and academic communities to develop pilot projects and legal resources to support the development of the criminal justice system in Hubei. The Fellow will support the work of the SEDRC in its various projects; for example, training legal aid lawyers, authoring training materials, working with local justice bureaus on juvenile community rehabilitation projects, publishing the SEDRC newsletter, and organizing a lecture series for law students. The Fellow will be stationed in Wuhan after an orientation period in Beijing. During the fellowship, there will be opportunities for travel in China to participate in other IBJ programs. Although Mandarin Chinese skills are preferred, they are not required. The ideal candidate should have an appreciation for Chinese culture, and be able to work in a cross–cultural workplace. Experience in the non–profit sector writing grants, developing monitoring and evaluation systems, and reporting to funders is also desirable. Fellows will receive a travel allowance and monthly stipend for living expenses. A minimum commitment of six months is required, though the position may be extended up to one year.
