Children and their mothers stuck in prison in DR Congo
Imagine being a child, trapped inside the four walls of a prison.
You are here because your mother was accused of a crime, but she has not even had a trial yet.
You don’t have a bed to sleep in.
You don’t have enough food to eat.
You don’t have any healthcare when you get sick.
You have no idea how long you will have to stay here.
There is violence all around you and your mom does her best to protect you, but she is just as scared as you are for the future.
This is the horrifying reality for 13 children stuck in Bukavu prison in the Democratic Republic of Congo. Poor, frightened and alone, they are waiting for someone to defend them.
Their mothers are too poor to afford a lawyer to get them out.
But with your support, our IBJ lawyers can fight to free these mothers and their children.
Why International Bridges to Justice?
