We are pleased to announce that we have finalized the date we are launching the 2008 JusticeMakers competition – June 26, 2008.

The launch coincides with the United Nations’ International Day in Support of Torture Victims – an effort to demonstrate solidarity to all whose mind, body or spirit have been impacted by torture.

“This is a day on which we pay our respects to those who have endured the unimaginable,” said Former UN Secretary-General Kofi Annan. “This is an occasion for the world to speak up against the unspeakable. It is long overdue that a day be dedicated to remembering and supporting the many victims and survivors of torture around the world.”

It is with those victims in mind that International Bridges to Justice launches JusticeMakers – an effort to highlight and support initiatives seeking to prevent torture (and other legal rights abuses) in communities around the world.

We are now calling on legal rights advocates, police, and justice officials – anyone with an idea to promote criminal justice – to share their plans and compete for a total purse of $5,000 US in funding.

Please join us in our effort to end torture in the 21st Century. Justice can’t wait.
