Geneva, Switzerland – 10 July 2017 – IBJ is pleased to announce its new partnership with MyJustice and the launch of IBJ’s Making Access to Justice Sustainable in Myanmar program. In partnership with MyJustice, a program implemented by the British Council and funded by the European Union, the new program builds on previous access to justice works carried out in country by both IBJ and MyJustice.
Central to the new program will be four new Justice Centres in Mandalay, Taunggyi, Taungoo and Hpa-An as well as additional satellite offices. The centres will provide criminal legal aid services to poor and marginalised people and communities throughout the country. The IBJ Myanmar program will follow its three-pillared approach to programming by building the capacity of lawyers through trainings, engaging justice stakeholders through Roundtable events, and empowering local communities through the dissemination of legal rights awareness campaigns.
The formation of this new partnership coincides with the inception of Myanmar’s new legal aid laws and will provide IBJ with a valuable opportunity to participate in justice sector reform in Myanmar.
