Abdulaziz Darwish

Quote
“Over the past fourteen years, our country has suffered immense and systematic destruction, affecting ethical, social, and human structures. This made me realize that strengthening legal awareness and access to justice is a national necessity”
About Abdulaziz
Abdulhakim Hussein Ali Al-Hamad is a legal professional with more than 15 years of experience as a defense lawyer, and a trainer. He has seen how people’s lack of legal knowledge leaves them vulnerable to violations. He has been involved with IBJ in the past as a trainee and later became a trainer. Mr Al-Hamad wants to ensure that vulnerable groups can understand and exercise their rights. He remains active in community reconciliation, legal training, and awareness initiatives.
The Challenge
Mr. Al-Hamad identifies that there is a lack of awareness of legal rights among both citizens and government employees. The lack of legal knowledge undermines individuals’ ability to seek protection and remedies through the justice system.
The Innovation: Early Access to Justice
Mr Al-Hamad’s project tackles the lack of legal awareness that prevents accused persons from receiving fair treatment in Aleppo and the countryside by providing legal training for officials, lawyers, police, and community members. His project addresses the root problem of weak legal awareness by conducting awareness sessions to explain legal rights and the importance of early legal representation. The project relies on community engagement, training, and broad social networks, allowing legal knowledge to reach diverse groups more efficiently. His approach is inclusive, engaging women, men, and children through suitable formats.
