Salah Khaled Al-Ruwaili is a defense lawyer committed to strengthening the rule of law and supporting vulnerable individuals in his community. He has more than 5 years of experience working in human rights, especially helping families who lack legal knowledge and often become victims of unfair procedures.

The Challenge

Mr. Al-Ruwaili argues that a lack of knowledge of legal rights among citizens and government personnel has led to two problems: it has deterred people from claiming their rights, and it has increased the likelihood that government officials commit violations.

The Innovation: Charitable Legal Clinic

Mr. Al-Ruwaili’s project aims to improve access to justice for vulnerable residents of Deir ez-Zor by providing free legal consultations and raising awareness about human rights. The project is specifically designed for the people of Deir Ezzor and their real needs (civil documents, inheritance issues, land disputes etc.). Mr. Al-Ruwaili intends to establish a free legal clinic and a hotline where individuals can seek advice on civil status issues, property disputes and criminal matters. The project places particular emphasis on supporting those who cannot afford legal services, including widows, children without identification documents, and families facing property or civil status challenges. Mr. Al-Ruwaili also aims to provide training courses for law students, helping build the local legal capacity.
