Nur Amalia – Legal Expert
Nur Amalia has almost 30 years of experience as a lawyer after obtaining her Bachelor of Laws degree from the University of Indonesia in 1993. She began her career at the Jakarta Legal Aid Office (LBH Jakarta). She also holds a Masters degree in Development Management, and has trained projects with various organizations, including Pusdiklat MA-RI, the World Bank, UNDP, and the American Bar Association Rule of Law Initiative. From 2011 – 2017, Nur Amalia was a visiting lecturer for the Women’s Studies postgraduate program at the University of Indonesia. Nur Amalia has served as Executive Board Chairperson at the Pelangi Indonesia Foundation since 2007, and is also part of the Perempuan Aman expert team. Since 2016, she has served as Chair of PPMAN (Indigenous Peoples Defenders Association of the Archipelago). Nur Amalia is also passionate about environmental issues, and has written numerous research papers on a variety of issues, including forest and land use governance, marine policy, and local sustainable development strategies. She is currently the Chair of the National Forestry Council.
Febi Yonesta – Head of Pro Bono and Legal Aid at the Central Executive Board of the Indonesian Advocates Association (RBA)
Febi Yonesta is a co-founder and the managing partner of FAIR Law Firm. Throughout two decades of legal practice, Yonesta is an acknowledged expert in Indonesian international and domestic criminal and human rights law. He has also developed expertise in organizational structure law, including the legal regime governing foundation and association in Indonesia. Prior to establishing this firm, Yonesta was a prominent public legal aid lawyer at LBH Jakarta, becoming its Director in 2012-2015. He subsequently served as one of YLBHI Chairpersons in 2017-2021. He currently still serves as the Head of Pro Bono and Legal Aid at the Central Executive Board of the Indonesian Advocates Association (RBA).
Aside from being well versed in criminal, civil and administrative litigation as well as in judicial review proceedings before the Constitutional and Supreme Court. He is also experienced in the fields of labor, immigration, family, housing and land law. Yonesta also maintains an extensive international public lawyers network. He has served as the Coordinator of the Southeast Asia Public Interest Lawyer (SEAPIL) network and the Steering Committee of the USA-based Global Network of Movement Lawyers (GNML).
Uli Pangaribuan – Director, LBH APIK Jakarta
Uli Arta Pangaribuan, S.H., is the Director of LBH APIK Jakarta since March 2023. Previously she was the Coordinator of Legal Service at LBH APIK Jakarta, and Head of Network and Campaign Division of PBHI Jakarta. She studied law at Bung Karno University and studied Criminology at the Faculty of Social and Political Science, University of Indonesia. Aside from practicing law, she is also a certified mediator. She has been involved in various projects related to women rights, gender and gender based violence, child’s rights and rights of persons with disabilities. She is also a seasoned facilitator, speaker, module writer of trainings for lawyers, and has been invited as a speaker at training for judges on the juvenile criminal justice system.
Veryanto Sitohang – Commissioner at the Commission to End Violence Against Women and Children
Veryanto Sitohang was born and raised in Sidikalang, North Sumatra. Since the early 2000s, he has been an activist who accompanies women and other marginalized groups. In 2006 he founded Aliansi Sumut Bersatu, and NGO for pluralism, women and sexuality rights. Sanjeewa Liyanage – International Program Director, IBJ
Originally from Sri Lanka, Sanjeewa assumed the role of IBJ”s International Program Director in October 2006 after over 12 years of experience in project management in Asia. He began his career as the Asian Coordinator for International Young Christian Students (IYCS) in 1988, where he conducted social awareness and leadership training programs for students in 14 Asian countries. In 1995, he joined the Asian Legal Resource Center (ALRC), a regional human rights NGOs based in Hong Kong, where he assisted human rights related legal training programs for different groups including civic group leaders, lawyers and judges from the Asia-Pacific region. He represented ALRC at numerous UN forums including the Commission on Human Rights (CHR) and the Human Rights Committee in Geneva, preparatory meetings leading to the World Conference against Racism in Warsaw and Bangkok and the Committee against Torture. Sanjeewa was the East Asian focal point for the NGO Coalition for International Criminal Court (CICC). He has undergone human rights training at the Institute of Social Studies (ISS) in The Hague and Danish Institute (formerly Danish Centre) for Human Rights (DIHR) in Copenhagen. He obtained his Masters of Law (LLM) (Human Rights) at the University of Hong Kong in 2004.
