When I found out that I had won the fellowship I felt very excited. However, I cannot deny that I was also quite concerned.
This was partially due to being newly committed to International Bridges to Justice as the financial entity for my project. But I was mostly concerned for the women who are waiting to obtain their freedom at the mercy of a fair judicial process and the respect of their rights.
The changes that is expected in the community must be analyzed from two perspectives:
1.- Regarding the colleagues and interns, it is expected that they will obtain strategies of litigation with a gender perspective. This would help the sponsored women demand their rights in court with recognized international instruments.
2.- Another change expected to be a result of my project is a group of empowered female inmates. Having the knowledge of their rights will empower them by allowing them to assume an effective defense and have a confident view of the judicial administration.
These changes allow for the sustainability of the state of human rights.
