About Joan

A lawyer since 2015, she is Advocate and Legal Services at Legal Aid Institute of the Indonesian Women’s Association for Justice (LBH APIK NTT).

Joan was also a recipient of IBJ’s 2021 JusticeMakers Fellowship award as part of the EU sponsored project “Advancing Access to Justice for Women in Indonesia”.

The Innovation: “Expanding Inclusive Access to Justice for Communities in NTT”

Based in Kupang City, Joan’s project aims to provide legal assistance for women and vulnerable groups, particularly the LGBTQ+ community. More specifically, the goal is to help law enforcement officers adopt a gender perspective when handling cases of women, thus contributing to developing inclusive legal protection for women and vulnerable groups as well as fostering an inclusive environment at Kupang Women’s Penitentiary.
