About Nofita

Nofita has over 12 years of experience as an advocate and currently works with Posbakum Peradi. She is dedicated to addressing the legal and psychological needs of both women and children, whether they are perpetrators or victims of crime.

The Challenge

Many women involved in the judicial process, whether as perpetrators or victims, do not receive adequate legal assistance. Consequently, they are often subjected to police misconduct, physical assault, or torture during arrest, police interrogations, or arbitrary detentions.

The Innovation: “Legal Assistance for Women as Victims and Perpetrators of Crime”

Nofita’s project aimed to increase the accessibility of legal aid and provide legal services for female perpetrators and victims of crime in Batam City. Ensuring that women are accompanied throughout the judicial process reduces the risk of police violations, physical assaults, and torture.

To achieve this, the project established a new network of volunteer lawyers and collaborated with counselors, resulting in 107 individuals receiving free legal consultations and information about their rights. Nofita and her team conducted 8 visits to detention centers, and the implementation of a rights awareness campaign called “Speak Up,” which focused on detainee rights and preventing gender-based violence, attracted 300 participants. The extensive collaboration between the police, service agencies, the provincial government, and the private sector in organizing this event highlighted the strong relationships built among different criminal justice stakeholders during the project, indicating the long-term impact of Nofita’s work.
